Airport pickup and drop off included: We will pick you up from the Puerto Maldonado International airport (Padre Aldamiz international), the earlier you arrive, the more time you will have on the first day to enjoy the wild life offered in this tour. Also try to book the late afternoon flight on the last day to allow enough time for all the activities
Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, you will be greeted and transferred to our office, where you can securely store any luggage you won’t need during the tour. Next, we’ll head to the port (Captain's Port) and take a 15-minute motorized boat ride down the Madre de Dios River to reach our lodge, the Amazon Lodge Tambopata.
Once settled into your comfortable accommodations, our expert guide will lead you on a nature walk along the lodge's trails, explaining the unique flora and fauna of the region. After lunch, we’ll board the boat for a 20-minute journey to the Monkey House—a perfect opportunity to see up to five species of monkeys that inhabit this area.
As evening falls, we’ll embark on a nighttime boat ride to spot capybaras and caimans. Using flashlights, we’ll search for caimans, easily identifiable by their glowing red eyes, while your guide shares fascinating insights about these creatures. Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for a restful night.
We start the day early at 5:00 AM with a visit to the Parrot Clay Lick, La Cachuela, a 50-minute boat ride upriver near Puerto Maldonado city. Here, you’ll witness a spectacular display as various parrot species gather on the riverbank to lick mineral-rich clay—a kaleidoscope of color and sound you won’t forget. You may even spot a sloth in the nearby trees.
After returning to the lodge for breakfast, we’ll prepare for a full-day exploration of Lake Sandoval. A short 10-minute boat ride brings us to the shores of Lake Sandoval, where we’ll enter the Tambopata Reserve. A scenic one-hour walk through the rainforest leads us to the lake. Here, we’ll paddle a canoe across the serene waters, home to a variety of birds and wildlife.
Enjoy a box lunch by the lake, and those who wish can take a refreshing swim in the safe, clear waters of Lake Sandoval. Afterward, we’ll head back to the lodge for dinner. In the evening, we’ll embark on a thrilling night hike to observe nocturnal animals and insects before retiring to our lodge.
After breakfast, we’ll take to the Madre de Dios River in kayaks, paddling to our adventure activity center. A short five-minute walk brings us to a 20-meter-high tower, where we’ll climb to explore suspension bridges and take in breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy—offering a perspective of the jungle as seen by its wildlife.
After returning to the lodge for lunch and a brief rest, we’ll embark on a fishing adventure. A 30-minute walk leads us to a small river, where you can try your hand at catching piranhas and other Amazonian fish.
Finally, we’ll return to the lodge to repack and prepare for the journey back to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival in the city, we’ll drop you off at your hotel or the bus station, marking the end of your unforgettable Amazon adventure.
